Our Mission
Music on the Hill provides children’s music programming to families in Fort Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods of Roxbury. Providing an inclusive musical experience that is free to all, including sing-a-long and use of age-appropriate instruments, Music on the Hill works to build elements of rhythm, enhance freedom of movement, and strengthen personal identity, expression, and well-being for every child.
Our Values
-
Art is one of the primary mechanisms through which children are able to process the world. We are committed to positioning Music on the Hill as an innovative and creative organization on all levels, from program delivery to operations, to donor involvement to evaluating impact. We aim to redefine music education by incorporating personal identity, expression, and well-being at the heart of our programming. Rather than orienting our curriculum around milestones of musical achievement, we aspire to establish an inclusive and creative space where children’s minds develop through reciprocal musical involvement.
-
Music on the Hill is committed to investing in the community where we deliver programming by building relationships with families and partner-site staff through our consistent curriculum. We aim to improve community wellness by offering programming that is free to all and by providing resources to our families so they can find avenues for future growth and development for their children.
-
Music on the Hill is committed to hearing and respecting the voices of our students and families by creating an environment where personal identity and expression can thrive.
-
Music on the Hill is committed to supporting a full creative life for all. Defined by Americans for the Arts, “cultural equity embodies the values, policies, and practices that ensure that all people—including but not limited to those who have been historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography, citizenship status, or religion—are represented in the development of arts policy; the support of artists; the nurturing of accessible, thriving venues for expression; and the fair distribution of programmatic, financial, and informational resources.”
We strive to empower a just, inclusive, and equitable society through our programming and embrace cultural equity as an essential component of our values and goals.
